The Museum Library subscribes to the Australian New Zealand Reference Centre (ANZRC) database. This large collection of regional full text content includes:

• over 635 full text reference books
• newspapers and magazines, including 20 Australian Consolidated Press titles
• overseas journals, including The Economist, New Scientist and National Geographic

A list of publications available for searching in the ANZRC database can be found on the front search page. They can be browsed alphabetically by title, by subject or by matching any word in the title. Try a subject search using marketing, finance or management.

Searching types

There are two search types available: simple and advanced. In both types of searches you can choose to search by clicking on one of the following tabs:

• Keyword - by keyword which can be combined in more complex searches using Boolean operators (and, or, not)
• Subjects - by subjects selected from an index
• Publications - within a particular publication selected from a list
• Indexes - within the database indexes where the keyword search is only within one field
• Images/Video - by images/video selected from lists arranged by type

Make your selection by choosing the relevant tab button from the green toolbar at the top of the page.

Both search types present a simple textbox in which to insert your search strategy.

Under the main search textbox is a screen of options to refine your search depending on which tab button is chosen.

Advanced search features

The options under the main search textbox with the Advanced search are broader and include being able to select material type. These 3 tab options are:

1. Refine search
2. Search History/Alerts
3. Results

1. Refine search

Depending on need, you can either:

• limit your search by certain publication characteristics such as date, whether peer reviewed or only those available in full text or
• expand the extent of the search by searching the complete text, not just the title, or by automatically searching for synonyms of the main terms

2. Search history/alerts

You can set up a personal account within EBSCOhost to save search histories or create alerts.

Click on 'Sign in' under the EBSCOhost banner.

When you sign in, you have access to a personal area that you can use to collect information (eg. lists of items or search strategies) that you plan on reusing in future EBSCOhost sessions.

Note: you do not need to sign in to conduct searches or print articles.

You can also save a search as an alert so that regular email updates of your original search will be sent as new material is published. To save a search as an alert:

• click 'Save searches/alerts' and you will be prompted to log in
• to save the search as an alert that can be automatically run, click 'Alert' and the save alert screen appears
• enter a name and description for the alert
• select how often the search will be run from the frequency drop-down list, the time frame within which articles are searched from the articles published drop-down list
• supply your email address (multiple email addresses are separated by a semicolon)

3. Results

• Click the linked page numbers (or use forward/backward arrows) to move through the result list
• Sort by allows you to re-sort your results by author, date, relevance, etc
• Available formats for each article are displayed - HTML full text, PDF full text or linked full text
• The article title is a hyperlink. To view a different format, click on any of the icons listed below the title
• Results are presented by source type. For example, you can limit your results to items from Australian newspapers by clicking on that link
• To select articles to save or view, click the 'Add folder' icon for the article and click 'View folder' to view the cumulative list
• When a result list is displayed, an 'Add this search to folder' icon appears to the right of your search string. You can add the query to the folder as a persistent link to a search
• From a result list you can click 'Display link' to copy and paste the link into a web site, document or email
• Search results collected in the folder will be automatically saved at the end of the session
