Elaine Heumann Gurian is a consultant and advisor to museums and visitor centers that are beginning, building, or reinventing themselves. She specializes in advising government museums—large and small, national and international—that are undergoing significant change. In 2004 she received the Distinguished Service to Museums Award, America's most important museum honor, presented by the American Association of Museums. Her website contains details of her career, which included a lengthy period (1997-2003) as a consultant to the National Museum of Australia, Canberra,as it prepared for its opening in 2001.Although extensive, this bibliography is necessarily a work in progress, and it is hoped that readers will advise the National Museum of Australia Library of omissions or deficiencies. All such communications should be addressed to National Museum of Australia library.
