Summary |
Ikuntji Textiles outlines and explores the development of the Ikuntji Artists textiles designs, the female artists and their stories, and the collaborations that have taken place since the formation of the art centre. This full-colour publication gives an insight into Ikuntji Artists range of wearable art textiles and the Dreamings and personal stories behind them. It addresses a gap in the perception and display of textiles, elevating fabrics to fine art textiles and wearable art. Each individual piece of fabric is hand printed and each garment hand made. These bold and beautiful Ikuntji designs are no longer simply a commodity but valuable cultural expressions that are worthy of collections and of a dedicated monograph. Texts included in the book range from interviews with the artists in Luritja and English, expert voices in the field of textile design, collaborators and the staff who have been on the journey with the art centre. This book is the result of years of artistic workshops, exhibitions, photo shoots and recordings of stories with the artists and collaborations nationally and internationally. |
