"This book makes no claim to literary merit, but I feel it has something to contribute to the history of South Australia. There are very few records preserved, particularly of former women artists of South Australia, so I am presenting stories pieced together from newspapers, magazines, talking to families of the artists and articles kindly written by friends and relatives. My contribution to the 1976 Festival of Arts is to present a collection of some historical importance dating from the late 19th century to the mid 1930's. I have chosen S.A. women artists as I feel nothing has ever been written about them on a collective basis. Women artists have been overlooked and I would like to show what a great contribution women, particularly of S.A., have made to the world of art." -- preface.
