H. O. Lethbridge grew up on his father's property 'Forest Vale', on the stockroute between Roma and Tambo and watered by the Maranoa River; he is the collector and translator of the songs in 'Australian Aboriginal Songs' - songs her heard from the Maranoa people in his childhood (p. 19-20, p. 177, p. 290-294); photo and mention of Forest Vale Dick and other stockmen on the station (p. 20); Butcher and Boss Davey taught him about Aboriginal culture (p. 26-27); burial site on the Maranoa (p. 55);later in life Lethbridge was the doctor in Narrandera and provided medical services to the Aboriginal people of the area - at Warrengesda (p. 67), in his surgery (p. 142), at The Sandhills near Narrandera (p. 236-237); establishment of the Narrandera Museum with items from Lethbridge's personal collections, including Aboriginal artefacts, predominantly Wiradjuri (p.216, 220-222); how Murdering Island on the Murrumbidgee got it's name (p. 238-239) |
