Summary This report documents the Aboriginal cultural heritage study of the Berwick-Pakenham residential growth corridor. The report is part of a larger planning study undertaken by the Ministry for Planning and Environment to determine how development within the corridor should proceed.::The Berwick-Pakenham corridor includes land in the Shires of Pakenham and Cranbourne and the City of Berwick. The corridor stretches between Dandenong and Bunyip which are, respectively, 30lan and 80lan to the east of the City of Melbourne. The corridor encompasses the outer Melbourne suburbs of Dandenong, Berwick, Pakenham and Cranbourne, and covers an area of approximately 255 square kilometres.::The main aims of this study are::1. To identify areas of high Aboriginal/archaeological potential and significance;:2. To determine any threats that the corridor development might pose to archaeologically sensitive areas and to make recommendations on the management of these areas;:3. To consult with the Aboriginal people with interest in the corridor zone and to identify their views regarding the cultural heritage of the area.::In addition to the above aims a further objective of the study was to develop a predictive model of site location based on both survey work and available ethnographic data. This model would be used to help identify areas of archaeological potential within the corridor.
