The stories of Australian aviation found in the NHC incorporate diverse subjects, including boomerangs and paintings; Australian flown, designed or built aircraft; air mail, cargo and passengers; flying medical services and aerial surveying; pilots, flight attendants and companies; air races and feats of aerial daring which captured the public imagination. As much of this material culture exists nowhere else, and due to the nature of its collection, these stories together offer a nationally significant narrative that is different to those generally found in Australia's aviation museums and other collecting institutions. These stories are as much about passengers as pilots, and include famous, familiar and forgotten individuals and events." --introduction.
