Summary
Beautifully illustrated and produced, Speak My Name demonstrates how the humanities and sciences work together to help us understand the past. The book explores the life and death of four people named Padiashaikhet, Meruah, Horus and Mer-Neith-it-es by examining their coffins and mummified remains from the Nicholson Museum collection. Using a variety of methods from CT imaging, skeletal analysis, spectroscopy, radiocarbon dating, textile analysis, wood identification, to digital modelling and illustration, to iconographic study and hieroglyphic translation to study the mummies, a multidisciplinary research team provides a unique insight into ancient Egyptian mummification, and the lives of these individuals. "Say my name so that I may live again" was often written onto the walls of tombs, and the book aims to realise this ancient Egyptian incantation to help Padiashaikhet, Meruah, Horus and Mer-Neith-it-es to live again.
